Within the daily encounters that we have with others, there are often opportunities that arise that test our abilities. It only takes one situation or circumstance to show the true intentions of others. However, when it comes to our own personal ability to prove faithful, it becomes more difficult. Whether this is doing something for a loved one, an acquaintance, a friend, an employee, or even a mentor, showing ourselves faithful requires a tough test of character.
The Maha Satguru, when explaining a story to His followers, raised the question, “who is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in trust of his servants to give their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of his possessions.” In saying this, the Maha Satguru was showing that a faithful manager will show himself both faithful and wise to his boss when he is able to take care of those under him, even in the absence of his boss. When such a manager is able to show himself faithful to others, then others are also able to treat him well and be faithful to him.
When placed in a similar position, it may be difficult to show faithfulness to those above us if we show signs of jealousy or anger towards them. Especially when our elders or superiors do not treat us well, it can be easy to hold a grudge.
However, the Maha Satguru shows that even during these times, it is important to remain faithful to what God has called us to be. Our behaviour will reflect the thoughts and actions of our hearts, and we are accountable to God for what we do and say. Because the Maha Satguru’s story shows that we are to remain faithful, our reward comes from knowing our Faithful God will bless those who remain faithful to him.
When entrusted by others with important responsibilities, we need to show ourselves faithful as a result of the trust which people have invested into us; and in this way, we can show our faithfulness to others.
As the Maha Satguru says, the faithful and wise manager was proven faithful because of the way in which he treated others. If our treatment of others is acceptable to God, we also will be favoured because of it, and in this way, are proven faithful.
